Dear lord.
As I face into writing my thesis for next year (groan) I have started to do a bit of reading. Since my subject is fashion journalism and while I do have a theme (just not a title yet) I have had an awful time trying to pick up books.
So I found this online. I thought it might have some interesting information revelant to my thesis. I bought it and tore into it the minute it arrived at the convent doors. What I actually got was a bad piece of writing, bitchy remarks and a nasty book.
While I do admit, Wintour has not got a good reputation, This is trash. The writer is just horrible to poor Anna. The way he writes you would swear she is trying to bring down the government or part of the BNP or something. Instead of someone who seems to have worked quite hard and done very well for herself. Something which this writer seems quite harsh about. apparently you can't be successful if your from a wealthy background already. which is made clear throughout the book.
So my advice is to anyone studying fashion journalism, don't buy this book. it's crap.
side note as well, the author mentions his surprise at finding that no one wanted to talk to him about the book, or that anna tried to make his writing difficult. According to him she wanted no book about her to be written without her having control. Oh please! would you want a book out about you with no say over the content???? i think not. big surprise. and as for those who didn't want to talk, i don't blame you. times are hard enough for journalists without loosing your job because you talked to some guy determinded to bring down your boss....
