Declining Conservative Party Membership

I have no doubt that Grant Shapps is on manouvers and is causing trouble, but he does have some credible points here from an outsiders' point of view. While there are some prominent young campaigners for the Conservatives, one does not see many of them. The Party seems to be dominated at localised and national level by the over 50's, and it shows in the election results when you consider that the Conservatives have never won more than a slim majority in a general election since 1987. It also shows in the Referendum on Brexit when the slim majority for that was dominated by the elderly, and there is a majority for Breit among the Conservatives
If this continues, then the Conservatives are finished, or will be akin to the Liberal Party in the 20th Century in terms of being an electoral force. This would not be a major surprise in that UK politics seems to undergo a major realingment in terms of political party dominance. For example, Labour had only a handul of MP's in 1906, and the Liberals were a major force to be reckoned with. There was even a time when the Conservatives were a feared electoral machine right across the UK and it is hard to say that it is that now.
We should not write them completely off, they are known to be tenacious, but they are weakened and those of us who are not Conservatives must start seriously thinking how we want the political structures and alingment within the UK, in terms of multi Party dominance.
